Backdoor discovered in xz package
Important!
Recently, it was discovered that the xz package, a lossless compression utility that is a dependency for many Linux programs, contains malicious code that may potentially leave systems vulnerable depending on what distribution of linux you are using. See this page as well as this archlinux news article for further information on what this code does.
Luckily, the backdoor was discovered in the package's source code and the package was updated since then, backdoor not included of course.
I strongly suggest anyone that has not upgraded their system in a while to do so immediately.
The following versions of XZ contain this backdoor:
xz5.6.0-1xz5.6.1-1
This backdoor was also included in Access OS
The March Access OS installation medium contains the malicious version of the xz package. If you are currently still using the access-os-2024.03.12-x86_64 ISO to perform your installs, please download the latest ISO from the projects page immediately. We have removed the affected installation media from this website so it cannot be downloaded again.
Also, if you haven't upgraded your Linux systems in the past month, you should run a full system upgrade now to ensure all of your packages are up to date. On archlinux based distros that use the pacman package manager (this includes Access OS), run sudo pacman -syu to do a full system upgrade.
Update 8/30/2023
Well the last few months have been quiet. I have been working on building a repo for Access OS, as well as I have managed to get a new machine to use as a home server. Their are plans to make some custom packages and scripts for Access OS, the page will come sometime between October and the end of this year. I also want to note, the VM images have now been converted to qcow2 to save space when extracting the files. With that I am going to and this update with a plan to get back on to YouTube hopefully being a bit more active with uploading videos their. You can find my channel links over on the about page.
Update 5/24/2023
I have been done with the move with the site for now. Everything should be working as it should. The podcast is still being worked on, however some of my friends and I are working a new project that is based on arch linux and is going to be a post install script. Here is a bit more info on how the podcast page is going to work. as far as being on the big podcast feeds and the likes of google podcast and apple podcast. I have no plans on getting them over onto a platform I have no control over and the shows will be over on this site. The file format is going to be in MP3 to save on storage. You will beable to download the files and play them from your device offline, and their for you will not need to have an internet connection to listen to them. I also want to get a blog going eventually over here as well. Even with that in mind I do want to try to take on the challenge of learning JS and jQuery to then beable to add some more flair or who knows what it is called theese day. With that I am going to leave with this note: you all should have a great summer as it is getting close to time to get into a body of watter near you.

I am going to be moving a few things around. I am mainly moving a few things around for better organization. I might break some things for a bit. I will update here when I am done.
